The Ocala Police Department maintains its training function through the Resource Development Section. A primary responsibility of this division is to provide training for the development of new skills, improving and updating old skills, re-certification of performance in high liability areas, the development of specialized skills and creating an awareness of new techniques and technologies for all employees.

Certified Police Officers in the State of Florida are required to attend several mandatory retraining classes throughout their career. The Resource Development Section maintains a record of employee training, and is responsible for overseeing the mandatory retraining program.

The Ocala Police Department boasts a highly advanced training auditorium, which houses high tech equipment needed to enhance the effectiveness of training classes held there. To date there have been hundreds of training classes held here by Ocala Police Department Instructors, and outside Instructors from other agencies and higher level learning facilities to include universities and police training organizations.
