The
Community Oriented Policing Patrol Bureau is responsible to
conduct preliminary, continuing, and follow-up
investigations of all crimes and incidents of a police
nature occurring within the corporate limits of the City of
Ocala. The Bureau works together with members of the
community to identify and resolve crime and public safety
issues that negatively impact the quality of life. The
Community Policing Bureau provides an around the clock
police presence and emergency police response to all
critical incidents and emergency situations.
Major G. Robinson,
grobinson@ocalapd.org, with two Captains and a
Lieutenant, manages the Bureau. To maximize the
effectiveness of delivery of police services the City of
Ocala is divided into two geographic Districts, each
supervised by a captain, and the Downtown Service Area which
is supervised by a Lieutenant. Each district is divided
geographically into patrol zones, each having an officer
assigned to handle the events occurring in that zone during
the officer’s shift, while officers assigned to the Downtown
Service Area are responsible for the downtown area during
their shift. The officers assigned to each of the two
geographic districts and Downtown Service Area, as stated
above, carry out the fundamental responsibilities of the
Ocala Police Department.
The Community Policing Bureau management team includes six
lieutenants who serve as the Watch Commanders for each of
the shifts around the clock. A sergeant directly supervises
each shift of officers.
