A man was arrested on July 9, 2013 after stealing money from a drawer behind the counter at Martin Oil, 1517 SW 10th St.
On today’s date, July 9, 2013 at approximately 9:48 am, officers from the Ocala Police Department responded to Martin Oil, 1517 SW 10th St., in reference to a report of a robbery that had just occurred. Officers were informed that the suspect was a known, regular customer who had, in fact, just filled out an employment application prior to committing the crime. The store had the application still, on which the suspect had written his name.
The clerk from the store advised that B/M Anthony Dwayne Thomas, DOB 10/24/79, had been standing at the counter filling out an application for employment. While there, Thomas reached across the counter into the clerk’s area, opened a drawer and took cash from within the drawer. Thomas then fled the scene.
Officers began to search the area for Thomas. Members of OPD’s Special Deployment Unit did locate Thomas just blocks from the store. Thomas immediately and actively resisted the officer who approached him to take him into custody and then ran. After a short pursuit, Thomas was captured. Thomas was positively identified as the thief and he was found to have the cash taken in the pocket of his shorts.
No one was injured as a result of this incident. Thomas was arrested and charged with one count of Burglary, one count of Petit Theft – Retail, and one count of Resisting with Violence.
