Recent “Pillowcase Bandits” Identified and Arrested
Recently Ocala has experienced numerous residential burglaries involving the use of victims' pillowcases to steal property. The suspects have been identified and arrested.
Since the beginning of November 2012, the Ocala Police Department has worked numerous residential burglaries that occur during daytime hours. Once entering the homes forcibly, the suspects would then use the victims’ own pillowcases to fill with property. During the course of the investigation, information was received in reference to suspicious subjects in the areas of the burglaries; descriptions of the white male subjects and the bicycles they were riding were provided to officers in the form of a BOLO (Be On the Look Out).
On Tuesday, 12/11/12, Sgt. Erica Hay located two subjects matching the description, along with a white female, riding bicycles in the area of the 2800 block of E. SR40. Sgt. Hay made contact with all 3 in the parking lot of Colortyme, 3433 E. SR 40. They were identified as: W/M Robert M. Harrison, DOB 07/05/83, W/M Jonathan Michael Rollins, DOB 05/29/76 and W/F Tonia Elizabeth Donnelly, DOB 06/29/78.
Donnelly was found to have been carrying a pink backpack containing miscellaneous jewelry items. She advised that Harrison and Rollins had asked that she sell the jewelry for them, and she had agreed. She advised to having no knowledge of any burglaries or thefts and cooperated fully with law enforcement. Sgt. Greg Martin and Detective Scott Rowe were called to the scene to further investigate. Upon viewing the jewelry, Det. Rowe located a class ring from UCF with a name engraved on the inside. He was able to contact this person, who, upon checking her home, found it to have been burglarized and all of her jewelry stolen, to include her class ring. Also stolen from that home was a pink Kel Tec .380 handgun.
Donnelly also gave permission to search the residence she shares with Harrison, located at Windsor Towers Apartments, 3914 E. SR 40, #3. Located inside of this residence were numerous items of stolen property. Some of the property had even been wrapped as gifts for family members. These items included rare coin collections, baseball card collections, Elvis and Beatles records, electronic gaming devices and more. Two other locations in the City were also searched and numerous stolen items recovered.
Both Harrison and Rollins were arrested for the case detailed above and another case where property was immediately identified. Harrison was charged with two counts of Armed Burglary and one count of Grand Theft. Rollins was charged with two counts of Armed Burglary, one count of Grand Theft and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools, as he was carrying a crowbar in his pocket when stopped by Sgt. Hay. Harrison’s bond was set at $52,000.00. Rollins bond was set at $54,000.00, however, he received a No Bond from outstanding warrants he was served with once he was booked in at the Marion County Jail. The investigation is continuing and more charges are pending.
Many items recovered have not yet been identified with victims they belong to. Detectives are bringing victims in to view the property and identify what belongs to them.
We are holding a Press Conference at 2:00 PM today, 12/12/12. Further details on these cases and others, as well as updated information will be provided at that time. Please join us in the OPD Community Room, located at our main Headquarters, 402 S. Pine Ave., Ocala, FL 34471.
