IMPAIRED DRIVING EDUCATION AND VICTIM SERVICES (IDEAVS) HOLDS ANNUAL VIGIL TO HONOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN KILLED OR INJURED BY DRUGGED OR DRUNK DRIVERS IN OCALA/MARION COUNTY

Group Hopes to Lend Support to Victims & Survivors and to Prevent Further Tragedies by Bringing Public Awareness to this Ongoing Threat in Marion County’s Streets and Highways.

WHAT: “The 4th Annual Candlelight Vigil to Remember Victims of Impaired Driving”

WHEN: Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 6:00 pm

WHERE: Ocala City Hall Citizens’ Circle

WHO: Impaired Driving Education and Victim Services (IDEAVS), Salvation Army Major George Patterson, Drive for Life, local city/county dignitaries & law enforcement officers, as well as injured and bereaved victims of impaired driving crashes, will participate in the candle lighting ceremony. We encourage the public to join us at this event as a symbol of support for the victims of this violent crime.

WHY: Because according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports, approximately 57 people have been killed and countless others injured in Marion County this year because of alcohol-related traffic crashes. During the holiday season, traffic crashes caused by drinking and driving typically increase.

The IDEAVS Candlelight Vigil is held each December to remember the victims killed and injured in impaired driving crashes. The purpose of the vigil is to support victims, alert the public about the reality of impaired driving, and express hope for a less violent future for all of us.
