Help us name our newest K-9.
The Ocala Police Department announces a local competition giving our citizens an opportunity to name our newest Police K-9.
The Ocala Police Department announces a local competition giving our citizens an opportunity to name our newest Police K-9.

Three local businesses have graciously donated Police K-9s to the Ocala Police Department to replace 2 retired K-9s Dozer and Bud, and add an additional K-9 to the Agency. Bernie Little of Bernie Little Distributing donated Ice, Rich and Mike Bianculli of Richmond Hill Capital Partners donated Zorba. Doug Cone of Cone Distributing who also donated current working K-9, Kilo donated the third K-9 and suggested in the spirit of fun and getting the community involved that the third and newest member of the Ocala Police Department be named by our citizens. Chief Greg Graham thought it would be a great idea so the Ocala Police Department will be having the contest to name the K-9.

Sgt. Erica Hay will be spearheading the competition and, a panel of 5 judges will pick the winning entry. Mayor Kent Guinn will chair the panel which will also include F. L. Brown, Executive Director of Brown Memorial Funeral Home, Jaye Baillie, President/CEO of the Ocala-Marion Chamber of Commerce, Bill Tuck a local Ocala businessman, and , Sergeant Robert Douglas, of the Ocala Police Department. The winner will be able to ride with the K-9 unit and get a firsthand look at what a K-9 does during a routine patrol day and they will have the satisfaction of naming the newest member of the Ocala Police Department.

The newest member of the Ocala Police Department is a German Sheppard from Germany, and he is 14 months old. He will be utilized for tracking, apprehension, and narcotics detection.

The contest will begin on 07-27-2012 and end on 08-05-2012 at which time, the panel of judges will select the winner. The winner will be announced on 08-13-12. You can submit your entries by dropping an envelope off at the Ocala Police Department, 402 South Pine Avenue Ocala, Fl., or through our Face Book or you can Email your entry to namethek9@ocalapd.com Please submit your contact information with your entries. We encourage all ages to participate and may the best name win.
