Ocala Police Department Starting Click It or Ticket Crackdown to Save Lives and Boost Seat Belt Use

Ocala Florida – The annual Click it or Ticket mobilization will start on May 21, 2012 and end on June 3, 2012. Don’t forget to buckle up and please encourage those around you to always do the same

The Ocala Police Department, has issued 782 seat belt citations in 2012 we encourage drivers and passengers to always buckle-up.

A majority of people have gotten the message, but many have not. Tragic crashes can and do happen every day, our job is to save lives, and we want everyone to have the best chance of surviving a fatal crash—by always buckling up.

High-visibility enforcement such as the Click It or Ticket mobilization is credited with increasing the national belt usage rate from 58 percent in 1994 to an observed usage rate of 84 percent in 2011 according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Belt use saves thousands of lives across America each year. NHTSA statistics also show that in 2010 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide.

The Ocala Police Department is proud to support the 2012 Click It or Ticket mobilization – a highly visible national enforcement crackdown created to save more lives on our roadways, both during day and also at night, our stepped-up enforcement shows our community how important it really is to always buckle up on our roadways.”
