Red Kettle Campaign Kick-Off Reminder
The Ocala Police Department wants to remind you of the kick-off of the 2010 Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign this Friday.
2010 Red Kettle Campaign
The Ocala Police Department wants to remind you of the upcoming Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign Kick-Off. It is scheduled for this Friday, November 12, 2010 at 8:45 am on the Ocala Downtown Square, with the campaign running up until December 24, 2010. The kick-off event will include performances by the Salvation Army Band, the Westport High School Jazz Band and the Howard Middle School Chorus, as well as remarks from various special guests.

This year the local Ocala/Marion County Red Kettle Campaign is being chaired by Deputy Chief Rodney Smith of the Ocala Police Department. He has already recruited area leaders to participate in the campaign. These leaders will ring the bell at designated locations for the first hour of the campaign. They will each be in competition with one another to see who can raise the most money in that first hour and therefore receive the “Media Mogul Award”. Since “padding the pot” is allowed, and even encouraged, some are already collecting donations!! You can even donate on-line by going to the various on-line kettles. You can search www.OnlineRedKettle.com for the kettle you want to contribute to! The area leaders who are participating are Chief Samuel Williams of the Ocala Police Department, Marion County Sheriff Ed Dean and Ocala Mayor Randy Ewers. Following the kick-off, each will proceed to their designated location to ring the bell from 10:00 to 11:00 am. The locations are as follows:

•Chief Samuel Williams Publix at the 40 East Shopping Ctr
3450 E. Silver Springs Blvd
•Mayor Randy Ewers Publix at Churchill Square
303 SE 17th St.
•Sheriff Ed Dean Walmart Supercenter
2600 SW 19th Ave. Rd.

The Red Kettle Christmas Campaign enables the Salvation Army to provide food, toys and clothing to over 6 million people during the Christmas season and helps more than 34 million Americans recovering from all kinds of personal disasters nationwide. And remember, all money raised in Marion County will stay and benefit those in need right here in Marion County.

Many employees of the City and County will be volunteering their time to “ring the bell” this season. Even the Ocala Police Department Choir will be ringing the bell on December 6th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm!! So, come out and join us for the kick-off and participate throughout the holiday season by volunteering to “ring the bell” and by contributing to our Red Kettles!!
