OPD will host the 2010 Red Ribbon Week Kick-Off on Monday, 10/25/10.
Red Ribbon Week runs from October 23 – 31, 2010 this year. The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA.

National Family Partnership is the sponsor of the National Red Ribbon Week Celebration. They are helping citizens across the state come together to keep children, families and communities safe, healthy and drug-free, through parent training, networking and sponsoring the National Red Ribbon Campaign.

This year is Red Ribbon’s 25th Anniversary and they have chosen the theme, “I Am Drug-Free”. It is now the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation.

The Ocala Police Department is proud to host the kick-off of Red Ribbon Week again this year. It will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the front parking lot of our main headquarters, located at 402 S. Pine Ave. Come out and unite with us in a stand against substance abuse – there will be food, fun and entertainment for all!!
