At 9:15am Monday, May 5, 2014, a bank robbery occurred at Suntrust Bank, 111 SW 17th St. A white male described as being in his 40's & unshaven, 5'9" tall, 130 to 150 pounds; he was wearing a reflective vest, hard hat, dark t-shirt & blue jeans. He shed the vest, hard hat & t-shirt after fleeing the bank. Witnesses advise he was last seen westbound in a white t-shirt & blue jeans. At the bank he showed a note and left with an undetermined amount of money. The note advised that the bank teller had 30 seconds to give him money and that he had a gun. No weapon was seen & no one was injured.
By 10:02 am officers were able to locate and identify the bank robber from the Suntrust Bank robbery this morning! This was thanks not only to a quick response by officers, but also due to the amazing assistance of our community. Due to following the trail and obtaining information from witnesses in the area, we quickly located the suspect in his room at he Comfort Motel, 1850 S. Pine Ave. He is Andrew Douglas Bento, DOB 8-21-68, and was charged with the bank robbery.

In addition to being charged with the bank robbery this morning, Andrew Bento has been charged with two counts of Strong Arm Robbery in reference to an incident that occurred at MRMC on 3/19/14. In that incident, Bento attacked a 41 year old woman, Michelle Roberts, and a 60 year old woman, Ida Roberts, as they were walking out of the MRMC Emergency Department; he came up behind them and knocked Michelle to the ground and dragged her. He got her purse and tried to take Ida's, but was unsuccessful. When Bento was located today, he was wearing the same plaid shorts he was wearing in the surveillance photo from MRMC; Bento confirmed he had committed that robbery, as well.

The Ocala Police Department wants to thank the citizens of Ocala for their invaluable assistance in capturing Andrew Bento.
