ARRESTS MADE IN KANGAROO ROBBERY
On Friday, 12/13/13, Detective Mathew Steckman arrested the suspect caught on video committing the robbery at the Kangaroo Express on 12/12/13.
On 12/12/13, at approximately 2:51 AM, officers responded to the Kangaroo Express, 3232 W. Silver Springs Blvd. in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, they found the clerk had sustained an injury to her head that was bleeding and required medical attention. The clerk advised, prior to being transported to a local hospital, that a person who appeared to be a black female entered the store, heated up two hamburgers and requested two packs of cigarettes for purchase upon approaching the counter. When the clerk turned back after retrieving the cigarrettes, the suspect sprayed her with pepper spray and then came around the counter and struck her in the head with an unknown type object. The clerk fell to the ground and the suspect opened the register and took the cash drawer. The suspect fled with the cash drawer, the back with the hamburgers and cigarettes in it and a soda she grabbed on the way out.

On 12/13/13, Detective Mathew Steckman was able to identify and located the suspect seen in the video. Once in custody, the suspect, identified as B/M AJ Irving, DOB 8/9/89, was interviewed and did advise that he had committed the robbery. Irving also advised that another subject had driven him to commit the robbery and driven him away following it.

Det. Steckman has identified the driver as B/M Oscar Brathwaite, DOB 10/1/85. A warrant was issued on today's date, 12/16/13, for Brathwaite for 1 count of Robbery with a Deadly Weapon. Shortly after the issuance of the warrant, Brathwaite was located and placed under arrest. The Ocala Police Department thanks the community for it's assistance in identifying and locating the two suspects in this violent robbery. We are pleased to be able to place both in jail so quickly.
