W/F Bethany Douglas was arrested for leaving her 4 month old unattended in a vehicle at a local liquor store.
On 12/11/13, at approximately 8:27 PM, Officer Dominic Bertalan responded to ABC Liquor, 2595 SW College Rd., in reference to a report of an infant left unattended in a vehicle. The complainants/witnesses in the case were to off duty Marion County Sheriff's Office Deputies - Deputy N. McClain and Deputy K. Wilkes. Both of the Deputies had first heard the infant crying and then had observed the infant in the backseat of a vehicle in the parking lot by itself. They stood by for 16 minutes prior to the infant's mother coming out of the liquor store - it is unknown how long the infant was unattended prior to the arrival of the deputies. When the mother, identified as W/F Bethany Douglas, DOB 3/8/85, was confronted by Deputy McClain, she was uncooperative and stated, "You can't do anything, you're off duty."

Douglas told Officer Bertalan that she had left her 4 month old daughter in the vehicle because she didn't want to bring her into the liquor store; she felt it was okay to do because the weather was comfortable.

Douglas was arrested and charged with one count of Child Neglect; she was transported to the Marion County Jail. Her 4 month old daughter was placed into the custody of DCF.
