13 Arrests Made Reference K-2
The Unified Drug Enforcement Strike Team conducted 5 search warrants as part of an operation to address the sales of synthetic drug sales in Marion County.
On Thursday, 9/5/13, the Unified Drug Enforcement Strike Team (UDEST) executed 5 Search Warrants at local stores in Marion County simultaneously. This has been an on-going operation involving investigations into the sale of controlled substances namely synthetic marijuana and of drug paraphernalia such as pipes used to smoke the illegal substances.
The 5 locations, arrested persons & charges are as follows:
1. Holy Smokes, 3380 SE Lake Weir Ave., Unit B
a. W/M Michael J. Pando, DOB 2/6/76 - Owner
1. Warrant 1 Count Possession of Synthetic Marijuana
2. Warrant 1 Count Sale of Synthetic Marijuana; 1 Count Possession of Synthetic Marijuana
3. 1 Count Possession of Synthetic Marijuana, More than 3 Grams; 1 Count Possession of Retail Drug Paraphernalia
b. W/M William M. McMullen, DOB 9/1/70 Owner
1. Warrant 1 Count Possession of Synthetic Marijuana
c. W/M Matthew B. Gibson, DOB 11/29/80 Clerk

1. 2 Warrants 2 Counts Possession of Synthetic Marijuana; 2 Counts Sale of Synthetic Marijuana

In addition to the 5 Search Warrants, Agents responded to a 6th store, the Sunoco in Belleview, in order to locate the manager, whom they had already obtained warrants to arrest. Upon arrival they located the suspect and obtained consent to search the premises.

a. I/M Chirag Patel (Chitra K. Das), DOB 5/7/68 - Manager
1. 2 Warrants 2 Counts Possession of Synthetic Marijuana; 1 Count Sale of Synthetic Marijuana
2. 1 Count Possession of Synthetic Marijuana
3. 1 Count Possession of Retail Drug Paraphernalia

In total, 13 people were arrested; approximately 3,516 packages of Synthetic Marijuana, more than 1,500 paraphernalia pipes and more than $29,000.00 in US Currency was seized as a result of the operation. The operation is still pending additional arrests.
