A three car traffic crash in the 4700 block of SW 20th St. results in the death of one person.
On today’s date, August 22, 2013, at approximately 3:59 pm, officers responded to a traffic crash in front of Meadowbrook Church, 4741 SW 20th St. Upon arrival, officers found that the crash had involved 3 vehicles and resulted on the death of 1 driver.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a silver 2001 BMW was traveling eastbound on SW 20th St. when it crossed the median for unknown reason(s) into westbound lanes. The BMW struck a 1998 white Oldsmobile. In the course of the crash a third vehicle was struck - a 2010 Tan Honda 4-door – and received some damage to the passenger side, but the driver, W/M Wilford Joseph Laughlin, DOB 4/6/31, and his wife were not injured.
The driver of the BMW was H/M Angel David Guevara Arenas, DOB 4/8/93, who was pronounced deceased on scene. Next of kin has been notified. The front seat passenger was H/M Emanuel Casillas-Green, DOB 6/13/96, and the back seat passenger was H/M Daniel Espinoza, DOB 6/19/95. Both passengers were transported to local hospitals by ambulance. All three were students at West Port High School. The driver and sole occupant of the white Oldsmobile was W/M Brandon Michael Haley Hyde, DOB 9/16/93, and he was also transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He is a former student at West Port High School and was on his way to volunteer assist the football coach at the school. Traffic Homicide Investigators are still working this incident at the time of this release, and the roadway is still blocked for westbound traffic in this area.
