ARREST OF MANAGER & BOYFRIEND FOR PANERA ROBBERY
Today, 8/8/13, Det. Gauthier arrested the assistant manager and her boyfriend for the robbery at Panera Bread on 8/5/13.
On Monday, August 5, 2013, at approximately 11:05 PM, officers responded to the Panera at 2370 SW College Rd, Suite #101, in reference to an Armed Robbery that had just occurred to the business. The suspect is described as a black male subject wearing blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, a bandana around his face and one black shoe and one white shoe.
The suspect entered through the back door of the business. There were three employees present at the time. The suspect was brandishing a silver colored handgun and pointed it at two of the employees and ordered them to the ground in the back prep area. He then got the manager from the office, pointed the gun at her head and directed her to empty all monies from the register into a paper bag. He then forced her to open the safe and add all the money within to the contents of the paper bag. Prior to leaving, he ordered all three employees into the manager’s office and then fled the scene.
No one was injured as a result of this incident. Surveillance video was obtained and released in the hopes of gaining assistance from the community on the identity and/or location of the suspect in this case.
Following the initial report, Detective Miguel Gauthier was assigned to investigate the case. He obtained information that the assistant manager that had been on duty during the robbery, w/f Erika Nunez, DOB 9/4/87, had been having financial difficulties and that she was currently dating a b/m subject who looked like the robber.
On today’s date, August 8, 2013, Det. Gauthier was given information that Nunez and a b/m had left her residence in a gray Chevrolet Impala with a Texas tag. He located the vehicle and called for a marked unit to conduct a traffic stop at SW 19th Ave and W. SR40. The subject driving the vehicle was b/m Geron Rashad Jones, DOB 7/30/91, who was found to have a revoked Florida Driver’s License. Officer Doug Russell charged Jones with the DWLSR and he was transported to the Ocala Police Department to be interviewed by Det. Gauthier in reference to the Panera robbery case. Nunez, who had also been in the vehicle as a passenger, was charged with Possession of Marijuana by Officer Jessica Wong. Both were then brought to OPD for questioning on the case.
Nunez advised to having set up the robbery with her boyfriend, Jones, because she was going through hard financial times. Approximately $900 of the stolen money was recovered from Nunez.
Additionally, the vehicle that Jones was stopped in was the same one identified as having committed the hit and run on Monday, August 5, 2013 at approximately 6:47 PM. Although he made no statements in regards to the robbery, he did advise that he had been driving when the traffic crash occurred and had left the scene. He was issued criminal citations for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and DWLSR; he received a traffic citation for the Violation of Right of Way.
Both Nunez and Jones were transported and booked into the Marion County Jail.
