MAN TURNS HIMSELF IN FOR ROBBERIES AT KANGAROO & STEAK ‘N SHAKE
The suspect who robbed both the Kangaroo and the Steak 'n Shake on two consecutive dates, turned himself in at OPD.
On 7/1/13 at 2:02am, a white male subject robbed the Kangaroo at 5160 S. Pine Ave. and detectives at MCSO's Tactical Investigations Unit were investigating the case. The subject pictured in surveillance photos from the store advised that he'd been carjacked by two armed men who were out in his car, and that they were forcing him to rob the store. No weapon seen and he got away with $55 cash.
On 7/2/13 at just before 1am, the subject in the surveillance video released walked into the Steak 'n Shake and committed a robbery. He advised two employees that there was one man outside in his car and two at his house who were making him rob their establishment. He got no money from this Robbery and fled.
In both cases, a description of a white Buick was given as the vehicle driven by the suspect. Witnesses also advised to seeing no other subjects in the car when the suspect fled.
The suspect in the surveillance from each of the two robberies appeared to be the same person, as well. OPD and MCSO released the surveillance photos and video in hopes of getting information from the community on the identity of the suspect. Detective Hilton and an investigator from MCSO’s Tactical Investigations Unit have been working together cooperatively to solve these crimes.
On today’s date, W/M Nicholas Alexander Cowart, DOB 02/02/80, of Ocala came to the Ocala Police Department and turned himself in to Det. Hilton and an investigator from MCSO’s Tactical Investigations Unit. Cowart advised to being the subject who robbed both the Kangaroo and the Steak ‘n Shake.
Cowart was arrested by MCSO and by Det. Hilton of OPD for 1 count of Robbery for each case. He was transported to the Marion County Jail and held under a bond of $20,000.
