(OPD Case # 200900107737)
On Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at approximately 1:34 p.m. a black male subject committed a robbery at Publix, 303 SE 17th Street, Churchill Square. The subject entered the business and removed two (2) bottles of shampoo committing a Retail Theft. While exiting the business, the subject was confronted by the store manager in reference to the theft. The subject brandished a pocket knife threatening the manager then fled the area. No one was injured during this incident however; these actions changed the retail theft to an Armed Robbery.
Management from Publix contacted the Ocala Police Department via "911" and provided a description of the black male. Units responded to the area to B.O.L.O. for the individual. A few minutes passed and a subject matching the description was observed on S. Pine Ave. Units converged to this area and the black male subject fled westbound across Pine Ave into the BP Station, 1010 S. Pine Ave. Assisting Officers made contact with Subject: William C. Phillips (black male, dob: 8/24/62) and detained him.
A positive identification was made by the victim and Subject: Phillips was arrested. Both bottles of shampoo were in a bag which Phillips had in his possession. Phillips was booked into the Marion County Jail for One Count of Armed Robbery.
