Local Man arrested for counterfeiting

Detective Wayne Greene and Detective Mike Hilton arrested W/M William LaRose for uttering and possession of counterfeit bills within the city limits of Ocala.

On 02-04-2012 a white male passed two counterfeit fifty dollar bills at the Aldi Food Store located at 2115 NE 49th Court Road. Store managers advised the subject came back in again and attempted to pass a counterfeit fifty and counterfeit twenty but was denied by the cashier. The manager was called and he kept one of the counterfeit bills and the white male subject fled the store.

On 02-10-2012 Detective Greene was able to review the in store video and recognized LaRose as the subject passing the counterfeit bills. Detective Greene verified Larose’s identity and a BOLO was given to Officers to locate and apprehend LaRose for counterfeiting.

On 02-13-2012 Detective Greene was notified by Detective Mike Hilton that he had observed LaRose walking in the area of Save A Lot 1800 block of East Silver Springs Blvd. Detective Hilton received information that a white male matching LaRose’s description had attempted to pass a counterfeit twenty dollar bill at the Dollar General located at 1827 East Silver Springs Blvd. Detective Hilton located LaRose at Save A Lot and he was arrested for the case at Aldi. LaRose was found to be in possession of 18 counterfeit twenty dollar bills and he was identified as the subject attempting to pass a counterfeit bill at the Dollar General. The counterfeit twenty was collected from the Dollar General and matched the twenties located on LaRose.

LaRose was arrested by Detective Greene and Detective Hilton on 4 counts of uttering a counterfeit bills, one count of possession of more than 10 counterfeit bills, and one count of retail theft. LaRose remains in the Marion County Jail on $6500 bail. LaRose did tell detectives that he was responsible for printing the money but would not provide details of where the equipment was located.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Ocala Police Department at 352-369-7000 or Crimestoppers at 352-368-STOP ( 7867 ).
