Ocala Police Department announces information on a Comprehensive Roadside Safety Checkpoint for Labor Day Weekend.
The problem of impaired-driving is a serious one. While America witnessed a decline in the number of impaired-driving fatalities from 2007-2009, the numbers are still too high. Labor Day weekend is an especially dangerous one with 56% of fatalities involving impaired drivers in 2009. That’s why the Ocala Police Department has joined with other law enforcement agencies throughout the country in support of an intensive crackdown on impaired driving during the period of August 19th –September 5th. This is the kick off campaign of the new “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” message being publicized nationally.

As part of this campaign, the Ocala Police Department, with the participation of other local and state agencies, will be conducting a Comprehensive Roadside Safety Checkpoint on Friday, September 2nd, 2011, from 7:00 pm until 12:00 am, in the 400 block of S. Pine Ave., Ocala, FL.

The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" crackdown is led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and combines high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity.

For more information on the crackdown, visit the High-Visibility Enforcement Campaign Headquarters at www.StopImpairedDriving.org.
