Local woman arrested in shooting incident
Ocala woman arrested for manslaughter in shooting death of her boyfriend during an altercation.
On 02-17-2011 at 12:45 AM Ocala Police Officers responded to a reported altercation where shots were fired at 4433 W. Silver Springs Blvd. Ocala, Florida. Upon arrival officers observed that a W/M Rodney Lee Gilbert, 11/8/53 had been shot in the face. Mr. Gilbert was transported to Shands Hospital where he ultimately died from the injury.

Officers obtained statements from witnesses who advised the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with his live-in girlfriend KimberlyD. Gustafson, W/F, 09/08/1960, over her drinking . Witness Ester Lucille McKeehan, W/F, 08-25-65 lived at the residence and is the victim’s ex-wife. Witnesses stated Gustafson went to the bedroom during the argument and retrieved an antique firearm and returned with the gun. Witnesses stated Gustafson cocked the firearm at which time they pleaded with Gustafson not to shoot Gilbert.

Witnesses stated Gustafson then turned and started to walk back towards the bedroom at which time Gilbert stood up and told Gustafson to go ahead and shoot me. Witnesses stated Gilbert then followed Gustafson into the hallway stating shoot me, at which time they observed Gustafson turn around and shoot Gilbert in the face at point blank range.
Witnesses advised that after Gustafson shot Gilbert she fled the residence in her car. Officers located Gustafson at 3821 SW College Rd. and she was transported to the Ocala Police Department where she was interviewed.

On 02-18-2011 Detectives met with the State Attorney’s Office and it was determined there was probable cause to arrest Kimberly Gustafson. Gustafson was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with Manslaughter with a firearm and domestic violence.
