Two Juveniles Arrested for Church Burglaries
Two juveniles were arrested for Burglaries to the Church of God By Faith, Inc., located at 707 SW Ft. King St. on August 10, 2010.
On August 10, 2010, at approximately 11:20 pm, officers responded to the Church of God By Faith, Inc., 707 SW Ft. King St. in reference to a Burglary in progress. Corporal Michelle Green and her K-9 partner, Motuck, responded to search the building. On the second floor of the building, Motuck alerted to a locked door labeled “Nursery”, indicating someone was inside. Sgt. Hooper had obtained keys to all doors from the night watchman prior to the search and was able to unlock the door. Just prior to releasing Motuck into the room, a subject inside shouted out, “I’m in here! Don’t let him bite me!” in response to Cpl. M. Green’s warnings. The subject was taken into custody at that time and identified as b/m juvenile Edward Dontrell Calhoun, DOB 01/08/93.

In an interview with Detective Matthew Bos at the Ocala Police Department, Calhoun advised to entering the church via a broken second story window, which he accessed from the roof of a shed. Calhoun advised that the purpose for entering was to steal food. Calhoun’s backpack containing tools was on the roof of the shed.

Prior to this incident, this same church had been the victim of a break-in on August 8, 2010. In that case, the suspects had taken all of the food in the pantry and freezers and a cordless telephone. The total value was $135.00. Calhoun advised Det. Bos that he had broken into the church on that occasion, as well. Calhoun advised that he and a friend, w/m juvenile Kevin Wilson, DOB 12/02/92, had been together on that previous occasion. Wilson had been the “lookout” while Calhoun went in and took food and a pair of drumsticks. Calhoun advised to giving Wilson a popsicle as they left the scene. Wilson was located at his home and brought in for questioning; he denied any involvement in the burglaries.

Edward Dontrell Calhoun was charged with 2 counts of Burglary, 1 Count of Possession of Burglary Tools and 1 count of Petit Theft. Kevin Wilson was charged with 1 count of Burglary and 1 count of Petit Theft.
