On April 16, 2009, at approximately 11:50 PM, the Ocala Police Department received a call reporting that gun shots had been heard in the area of the 300 block of SW 19th Ave. A call was also received from Munroe Regional Medical Center that a black male subject with a gunshot wound had been dropped off at the Emergency Department.

The victim, black male Kenterrell K. Wright, 19 years of age, advised to having been hanging out with his friend in the 300 block of SW 19th Ave. – both were sitting in a car belonging to the friend’s father, a 1994 maroon Cadillac. Wright advised that while he was sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, a black male, wearing all black and a black mask approached the passenger side of the car and pointed a silver handgun at him. At that point, Wright began to drive away, and the suspect started shooting. Wright was struck in the left shoulder. Wright could not advise as to a reason that the suspect began shooting. Wright’s injuries were not life-threatening.

While speaking with Officer Sasser at the hospital, Wright requested that Officer Sasser get his (Wright’s) cell phone out of his pocket. While assisting Wright, Officer Sasser located a container with “crack” cocaine in it, in Wright’s right front pocket. Following his treatment at the hospital, Wright was arrested for Possession of Cocaine and transported to the Marion County Jail.
