OCALA POLICE DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATES IN CLICK IT OR TICKET
The Ocala Police Department is participating in the statewide Click It Or Ticket Campaign.
The Ocala Police Department is proud to join hundreds of other law enforcement agencies across the state in the 2010 Click It or Ticket Spring campaign, which runs from March 1, 2010 until March 15, 2010. The Ocala Police Department, in its participation in this campaign, is continuing its pledge to save lives by intensifying its efforts to enforce the seat belt law.

On June 30, 2009, violations of Florida’s seat belt law became a primary stop for law enforcement officers. This means that officers may stop motorists when they see a violation of the seatbelt law, and no other type of violation will be necessary for officers to make the traffic stop. Officers will be increasing their watch for vehicles with any violations of the Florida laws on safety belt usage.

According to data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, in 2008 there were 2,983 individuals who were killed in motor vehicle related crashes. Of those traffic deaths, 1,795 individuals were either drivers or passengers in vehicles equipped with safety belts. Sixty percent (1,085) of those people killed were not wearing a safety belt. Additionally they advise that 69 percent (54 of 79) of the children, ages 0 to 17, killed in traffic crashes were not using safety equipment.

The Ocala Police Department is dedicated to saving lives and wants everyone in vehicles on our roadways to buckle up.
