The Major Crimes Unit, consist of detectives and the Domestic Violence/Advocate program.  The detectives are responsible for identifying and apprehending perpetrators of serious crimes against persons.  The unit also provides support and services to other divisions with the department. They are responsible for investigating felony crimes against persons; to include, but not limited to, homicide, robbery, bomb threats, aggravated assaults, aggravated battery, deaths, crimes against the elderly, and other serious crimes against persons.

 The Domestic Violence/Advocate program responds to victims of crimes with crisis intervention and supportive measures.  The Domestic Violence Detective is responsible for reviewing all open domestic violence cases and apprehending the perpetrator. The Victim Advocates address the needs of victims by acting as a liaison for victims.  They provide assistance to the victim with crimes compensation, transportation, and counseling, shelter injunctions for protection, loaner cell phones, referrals, domestic violence workshops, and safety workshops on elderly issues, brochures and maintaining a cell phone program for victims of crimes. The Domestic Violence/ Advocates also works within the community making public presentations on subjects related to victim services.
